A few hours of catching up chat, Pokemon movies, grass hockey and a fine meal saw us head down to the ice cream parlor under the Blue Water Bridge (the bridge from Sarnia to Port Huron, Michigan) to watch the sun go down. 'Round these parts my name is Cliff, Clifft or Parkwood the Goduncle. Nice relaxing day.
Day 5: While the girls slept in, the boys took off to shake the rust off the clubs at a local 9-hole course. The winter months didn't seem to erase the bad habits. Nat & Ash lounged around and enjoyed a lovely breakfast on the patio while the boys pieced together the new bunkbeds for Matthew's jet fighter-themed room. Sweet! Oh, to be six again.
Ash and I went for a visit with my Aunt Bonnie (mmm Choco). The three of us then went to visit my Nan's headstone and back to Bonnie's place where in her backyard is the local ball diamond. There we met up with my cousin Charlie and his son, Dylan. At the ripe age of five, Dylan has more skills as a ball player than I ever had/will. He is a local celebrity at that park, not only for his talent, but also for his super cuteness. Lady killer. After a quick game of catch and my first taste of a mulberry we had to get back to Casa Gouveia for another fantastic BBQ dinner (this place is starting to rival the Takahashi Inn!). Special guests were Roy's sister Dorothy and her boyfriend, Rad. Good times in the perfect summer night air.
Day 6: The last full day in Sarnia started with the Dumas and Gouveia clan stopping for breaky at John's: a popular local food establishment. With only one major chocolate milk spill - nothing to cry over - we got our fill of peameal bacon and eggs. From there Ash and I picked up some insurance for the US leg of our trip that starts tomorrow. Maggie helped us get to lil cousin Dylan's baseball game. Couldn't pass up seeing this guy in action. Short stop, outfield, catcher, pitcher, throwing out runners, line drives, pop flies, cheering on teammates... he did it all! A 5-year-old, playing with 6- and 7-year-olds; it was fantastic to see him with such a passion for the game. Looking forward to watching him in the bigs. I took a thousand pictures and got him to sign our t-shirts, so our retirement is set.
From the game we headed back to the G's and booked our hotel in Chi-town. Sorry Jennie, but the Travel Lodge got too many bad reviews that we couldn't risk it. Charlie, Dylan and Bonnie came for burgers, dogs and sweet corn and we had a great visit with them while Matthew and Dylan made alien guts. After our final goodbyes to the O'Rae's, we watched a killer episode of Wipeout! Why do we laugh at other people's pain? We will be sad to leave our friends here tomorrow but are excited for our next leg.
To say thanks, doesn't seem to be enough. Handsome Roy, Nat, Alex and Matt have been the best of hosts and even better friends. I so look forward to the day we can return the favour in K-town. Thank you so much. Love "Parkwood" and "What can I do?"
We will be away from the internet for a few days so we will update when we get to the 'Peg.
Until then my friends,
j&a
