Long Way Across: Day 1

After applying the logo to the car window and a brief photo shoot in our trip t-shirts...

...Jeff and I said more tearful goodbyes to Flo...

...and Willa and got on the road for Toronto.

As the official DJ for the Long Way Across, I was tasked with finding an appropriate song to accompany us on our way out of Ottawa. As #1 Wife, I went right to the Van Halen section in the CD case and found "Why Can't This Be Love". After seven years, I thought I had heard all of Jeff's Van Halen love stories, but this CD brought out even more details about his favourite band. He told me about the concert his brother took him to in Montreal on the bus when he was 16 and how he used to listen to the album on his Dad's stereo with headphones on and just stare at the artwork. Some of their songs are just too, well, guitarry for me, so I have to try and compare his love for them with mine for Madonna. It's so neat to see how excited he gets during those guitar solos. I will try to get some on film!

The first leg of our trip is complete! After a quick 4.5-hour drive, Jeff and I were warmly welcomed by our dear friend and my former roommate, Katie (aka Shelley). She prepared a lovely meal for us and we shared many a scream at the TV during The Bachelorette. (Can you believe Wes said that stuff in the car?!?!?)

As we have driven this road before, it doesn't seem like a big adventure just yet... all we can say is: stay tuned!
