Our first month as BC residents

Well, it has been almost a month that we have been living in Beautiful British Columbia and we are getting somewhat settled...
  • We got ourselves a BC telephone number (love the new slide phone!).

  • Jeff got to watch the legendary Clark Gilles, among others, at a Fantasy Hockey Camp. Famous!
  • We got the car inspected (CHA CHING!) so Tara could sell us our insurance. (Thanks for going in on your day off, Hontz!!!)

Here's Jeff putting the new plates (622 PGG) on our car!

  • We've had a couple of fun visits and meals with Grandma & Grandpa, the O'Connells, the Bryces and the Bailey. It's so nice to be able to meet up whenever we want!
  • We've had a couple of visits with the Dumas Boys. I got to participate in the DeDutch breakfast before they played a round of golf at Gallagher's Canyon (http://www.gallagherscanyon.com/). (Thanks again, Car!)

  • We've had a couple of visits with the Hannah Girls (or should I say, High Maintenance, FUN and Candy!!! Shi and Tess have since switched their shirts, as they were more "fitting").
  • And we had one dinner with all of them together! Family reunion!

  • Since they were both in town, we celebrated Tess' (August 19) and Jeff's (August 21) birthdays a bit early.

  • Cousin Tami maintained her title as the Indian Leg Wrestling Champion. Tess gave her a run for her money on her "bad leg" though! How's that hammy, Tami???

  • We spent an afternoon on the lake with Shilo's friend, Brandy and her family: husband Mark, sons Nash and Merrick, daughter Presley. We cruised around the Okanagan Lake, pulled Shi, Jeff and Nash on the tube for a bit, and Ash got to hold Presley.

Shi tried wakeboarding for the first time and managed to get up a couple of times. Way to go, Shi!

Mark showed us all how it's done. Quite impressive! Mark used to be the Coach of the Westside Warriors (Junior A hockey) and while we were on the boat, he let us know that he had just received a text message from Dany Heatley!!!! "Heater says we can go over there, if we want to..." My eyes almost popped out of my head! We pulled up to his dock and he helped us out of the boat. He was there with his Mom and Dad, girlfriend and a guy named Todd Simpson (he now sells real estate in the Kelowna area but he used to be a Senator a few years back. I had no idea until I looked him up when we got back.). Ash made pleasantries with Dany on the beach while chasing kids around and I chilled on the dock trying to get trade request info from the the girlfriend and mother. Apparently they are all just waiting for something to happen like the rest of us. Couldn't get any reason for his request to be traded and we saw him just days before his first talk with the media, during which he said really nothing new. Anyway, we have no photo proof of the chance meeting, as we just felt awkward. I managed to leave having said only "Hi" and "Bye" to Mr. Trade Me.

From the Heater Palace, we were back on the water where it was my turn to unsuccessfully try wakeboarding before heading back to the marina.

After a very fun day, we went to The Cove for dinner. An amazing view and good food!
Presley thought it was the funniest thing on the planet when she stuck this sticker on her face. I can't believe the laugh that came out of that little person! So cute!
To sum up this first month, we have been enjoying the weather and being on vacation! Ash has had a couple of interviews, but no offers yet (it's ok; she didn't want that Grade 9 English, Social Studies and Dance assignment anyways!!!). We'll definitely keep you posted on our job status... as soon as it exists!

Happy last week of summer!
